Darlington - P. Joanne Shaffer , 79, of Darlington, South Beaver Township, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Friendship Ridge Nursing Home in Beaver. She was born March 18, 1933, in Rural Valley, to Paul and Violet (Rearick) Colton. Joanne worked as a registered nurse for Beaver Valley Medical Center. Joanne is survived by three sons, Norman Shaffer II and his wife, Cindy, of Chambersburg, David Shaffer and his wife, Pam, of Seneca, and Roger Shaffer and his wife, Geri, of Watervliet, Mich.; daughter, Lisa Schafer, of South Carolina; four sisters, Harriett Kovach and her husband, William, of Rural Valley, Paula Keller, of Rural Valley, Beth Duchon and her husband, Francis, of Creekside, and Marjorie Little and her husband, Beryl, of Baden; two brothers, Charles Spencer Colton and his wife, Donna, of Rural Valley, and Berton Colton and his wife, Sally, of Rural Valley; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Timothy Colton. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in Rural Valley Methodist Church with services immediately following at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Craig Lindahl officiating. Interment will take place in the Rural Valley Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Rural Valley Methodist Church or to the Beaver County Animal Shelter. www.carsonboyer.com.
