James G. 'Jim' Ambrose, youngest son of Joseph Ritner and Margaret (Dougherty) Ambrose. Jim in later life. A note on this photo states it was taken 'about 1926.' The photographer's mark is Zaff Studio, 817 Fifth Avenue, New Kensington PA.

Jim was born in 1880 in Cowanshannock Township, probably on the family farm. In 1903, when he filled out his marriage license application, he was a carpenter in Rural Valley. In 1914, the date Beers' history of Armstrong County was published, he was still living in Rural Valley, and also was or had been the Republican party district committeeman and a trustee of the Rural Valley Presbyterian Church. Around 1919, he and his family moved to New Kensington PA where he was in business as a general contractor. He also became an elder and trustee of the Presbyterian church there, and was a director of the YMCA.

Jim married Jessie Huber in 1903 and had a family of three sons - Blaine, who died as a baby, Charles Huber and Joseph Raymond. Jessie died in 1957 and Jim passed away in 1958. They and their son Blaine are buried in the Rural Valley Cemetery.
