The 1890 Census of Civil War Veterans and Widows - Armstrong County.  Cowanshannock Township is on images 27 through 34. The link will take you to image 27. Information includes rank, company, dates of enlistment and discharge, length of service, and remarks about disability or casualty. You must register with familysearch.org (it's free) to view these images. (Note: most of the 1890 census was destroyed in a fire, but many of the veterans' schedules were spared.)  External link to familysearch.org.

If you can't find your ancestor on the 1890 census, check the Pennsylvania State Archives Civil War Records (external link). The State Archives page links to their online rosters and soldiers' index cards, and searchable resources at other sites.

The census also reports that George G. Graden served in the 123rd Regiment from Ohio, and James A. Williams served in the 41st Regiment, Company H, from Illinois.
