Generation 1. Joseph James (J.J.) Custead (1831-1913).

J.J. was a son of James Custard and Mary Margaret Miller, and the husband of Mary Deborah Cooper.
J.J.'s father, James Custard (abt 1805-1831) died when three months old. His mother, Mary Margaret Miller (abt 1798-aft 1875) then married James McNamara (abt 1804-?), also of Mead Twp. She had several children by her second husband - Margaret (1834-1901), Elizabeth (abt 1835-?) and Alexander (1849-1921) McNamara.J.J. farmed and ran the Sulpher Springs Nursery in Mead Twp. His creditors foreclosed on his business in the late 1870's, and his land was sold to developers who started the Ponce de Leon Springs, a health resort.J.J. and his wife, Mary Deborah Cooper, had at least ten children - Oliver William (1854-1913), John Albert (1856-1922), Alfred (1857-?), Milton James (1859-1923), Emma Rosetta (1863-1919), George Smith (1865-1939), Letitia Mary (1867-1933), Joseph James (1869-1869), Herman Cooper (1871-1909) and Flora May (1875-1896). They also lost one or more infants, one of whose names may have been Edwin or Edgar.
